Here are answers to some popular questions about She Mentor HER. If you have a question or concern that is not listed, please contact us at info@shementorher.com and we will respond, promptly.

What do monthly mentoring meetings look like?

Each session includes a meal, chat session, group therapy, guest speaker, journal time, and activities.

Does this program participate in Community Outreach?

Yes, we do community outreach. Each year, we use the HUG (Help Uplift Goodness) Campaign to choose local charities to serve.

Do I need to have any type of experience as a mentor?

No. However, we train our mentors and offer mental health advocacy certifications. We are asking mentors to share life, professional, educational, etc., experiences. You do not have to be an expert, but you must share your wisdom and knowledge to help younger ladies prosper on their own life journey.

What is the time commitment for Mentees (Ages 12-18)?

Mentees are free to contact their mentors whenever they like. However, group meetings are once a month, usually a Saturday, 9am-12pm. You will discuss and choose a time with your mentor of when you can meet in person or virtually once a month. If you all agree, you can choose to meet with both mentors together, virtually or in-person, as well.

What is the time commitment for Mentoring Mentees (Ages 19-27)?

Mentees in this group are considered mentoring mentees. Group meetings are once a month, usually a Saturday, 9am-12pm. If you cannot attend in person, we ask that you join virtually. You will discuss and choose a time with your mentor of when you can meet in person or virtually once a month. You must choose a separate time to meet with your mentee. If you all agree, you can choose to meet with them at the same time, virtually or in-person, as well.

What is the time commitment for Mentors (Ages 28 & up)?

Mentors in this group are expected to meet with mentees assigned in each age group separately and if you all choose to meet together, at least once a month. Group meetings are once a month, usually a Saturday, 9am-12pm. You must meet with your younger mentee (ages 12-18) in person unless you are out of town or physically unable, then you can meet virtually. You can discuss with your mentoring mentee (ages 19-27) if you should meet in person or virtually. If you all agree, you can choose to meet with them together, virtually or in-person, as well.

Does She Mentor Her perform criminal background checks on Mentors?

Yes, we do ask for background checks; however, unless there is an instance of child abuse of any kind, we may make exceptions.

Does it cost anything to join She Mentor Her?

No. However, we encourage mentors/mentees to buy a t-shirt and pay a small activity fee. Donations are welcomed.

What if my child is 12 years old in 2025? Can she join?

Yes, if your child turns 12 in 2025, they can register to join RUTH.

Do I get to choose my Mentor or Mentee?

No, a Mentor cannot choose their Mentee. However, a Mentee can choose not to continue with their Mentor(s) if they are not comfortable for any reason after 3 sessions or at the Director's discretion.

Is there a training session for Mentors?

Yes. All Mentors receive training before being assigned a Mentee.

​

Do Mentors get compensation for mentoring?

No, this work is strictly voluntary. You are not required to pay for any meals or events as they pertain to your mentee unless you choose to. We recommend finding free meeting places and activities.

Can I meet with my Mentee for more than the required time?

Yes, always coordinate meetings with your mentee and their parents or families if they are under 18.

What should I do if my mentor/mentee is in a life-threatening situation?

Please call the following numbers:
